This Sunday we’ll continue looking at the temptations of Jesus for the church, this time reading the story from the gospel of Matthew. The second temptation Jesus faced in Matthew 4 was to throw himself down from the pinnacle of the Temple, counting on the angels to catch him...if he’s truly the Son of God. In a culture of individualism, the church is tempted to turn faith into a quest for self-actualization, climbing high peaks to earn God’s favor, and risking it all to prove our belovedness and chosenness. But Jesus leads us down from high places and into beloved community.
We’ll enjoy special music this Sunday from the ACC Ensemble, directed by Tim K Muphy. Rev. Jen Chapman will preach and lead the service, and Susan Wootton will serve as Liturgist. Childcare will be available during the service for children ages 2 and up.
