On this Back to School Sunday we’ll have special prayers for students, staff, and teachers going back to school, and a blessing of the backpacks! Continuing in the gospel of Matthew (14:22-33), we’ll imagine ourselves in a boat on a stormy sea. As Jesus walks on water and Peter (bravely?) steps out of the boat to join him, we’ll consider what our feet are meant to do and how they connect with our hearts. We’ll also hear a little from Paul (Romans 10:12-15) about the “beautiful feet” who bring good news.
We’ll enjoy an offertory on the organ from Desmond Hartigan-O'Connor. Accompanist Tim. K. Murphy will provide the prelude and postlude and lead us through our hymns. Elena Caruthers will serve as liturgist and Rev. Jen Chapman will preach and lead the service. Childcare will be available during the service for children ages 2 and up.
