Guest Speaker: Ralph Payton is the Executive Director of the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP), where he leads one of West Contra Costa County’s most established organizations serving people experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Since taking the helm in 2022, Ralph has focused on strengthening GRIP’s programs, partnerships, and long-term sustainability while expanding its role within the region’s homelessness response system.

Ralph brings over two decades of nonprofit leadership and human services experience to GRIP. Prior to joining the organization, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Hunters Point Family in San Francisco and as Executive Director of Raphael House, the largest family shelter organization in San Francisco. He previously spent several years with Hamilton Families, serving as Director of Hamilton Family Residences and Emergency Center, and held leadership positions with BronxWorks in New York City overseeing youth workforce, education, family shelter, and alternative high school programs.

Throughout his career, Ralph has focused on homelessness, family stability, youth development, workforce development, and community-based services. At GRIP, he oversees a continuum of programs that includes the region’s only dedicated family shelter, emergency overnight shelter for single adults, the CARE Center drop-in program, daily community meals, street outreach, career development, and connections to healthcare, behavioral health, housing, and other supportive services.

Ralph has worked to deepen GRIP’s partnerships with local government, healthcare providers, community organizations, businesses, foundations, and faith communities while advocating for greater investment in services for people experiencing homelessness. His leadership approach emphasizes practical collaboration, dignity, low-barrier access to services, organizational sustainability, and helping individuals and families move toward greater stability and independence.

Outside of his professional work, Ralph enjoys motorcycles, travel, music—particularly Miles Davis—and spending time with his Boston Terrier, Bronson.
