Earth for Lent, Feb 15 - Apr 4, 2026

Lent is an invitation to deepen our connections…with God, with our faith and practices, with ourselves, creation, and one another. This year we’re going to do that with a focus on the earth. While the world wars and the news overwhelms, the earth invites us to breathe, to look, to listen. Throughout the season we’ll consider the natural location of the stories we find in Scripture. We’ll also have a number of opportunities to connect with nature and with one another.

It’s not too late to join one of our small groups, purchase a copy of our study/discussion book, “Earth for Lent,” or engage in Lenten practices.

Here’s one practice to consider:
Fall in Love - Spend an intentional 30 minutes each week with a part of nature you love: a tree, a creek, or a view. Find ways to immerse yourself deeply in this piece of nature: the sights, sounds, smells, etc. What do you love and why?

Special Sundays & Guest Speakers
We’ll have some special Sundays during the season with guest speakers, and a church field trip to Heirloom East Bay. Heirloom is an intentional Christian community, a church, a retreat center, and a small scale sustainable farm, where Rev. Brit Bolerjack, the author of “Earth for Lent,” works as Pastor/Farmer. On Sunday, March 8th, we’re invited to a farm tour at 2pm, opportunities to volunteer at 3pm, and/or Supper Church at 5:30pm. Want to carpool/need a ride? Contact Pastor Jen.

The author of “Earth for Lent,” Rev. Brit Bolerjack (who is also Aaron’s wife and Shiloh’s mom!) will be preaching on March 1st.

On the morning of March 8th, we’ll welcome Terry Lovett, a mother whose son, Jalani, died during his incarceration. Terry will speak about racial disparities within carceral settings and her fight for all lives taken while in custody. We’ll also think about places, like prisons, that lack access to nature, and what kind of effect that has on human beings.

We hope you’ll join us this Lent as we connect with the earth, with God, and with one another!

"Earth for Lent" Small Groups

Small groups are a great way to connect! This Lent we're looking to connect more deeply with one another and with creation as we lean into one of our four goals, "to embody what it means to be stewards of creation". For six weeks, beginning the week of February 15-21, small groups will meet weekly to read and discuss "Earth for Lent" by Rev. Brit Bolerjack.

If you’d like to join a group, contact the group leader or Pastor Jen.
