Richmond Emergency Food Pantry

Pantry is open Tuesdays and Fridays. Volunteers distribute bags of groceries to screened clients. Call 510-235-9732 to Lovetta Vandiver. Participate with a friendly, dedicated community of volunteers. Location in patio of Grace Lutheran Church at the corner of Barrett and 24th Street in Richmond (2369 Barrett Ave).  Volunteers are currently needed for 2 Tuesdays a Month serving from around 10 AM to 3 PM. 


Souper Center

Souper Center of the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP):   Arlington Church’s service team helps make sandwiches and serve lunch every THIRD TUESDAY and FIFTH THURSDAY of the month. Located 165 22nd Street, Richmond.  Our Team arrives at 10:30 and stays until 12:45 PM. Contact Linda Young if you wish to participate from time to time with the team from our church:  510-685-4394.  If you wish to volunteer on other dates call: 510-233-2141. 


The Turnabout Shop

The Turnabout Shop proceeds benefit Orthodontia care for children in Berkeley and West County, and recently added dental care for children. To use this program children must be under age 18. Volunteers work when the shop is open Wed-Sat, noon to 4 p.m. Application forms are available at the Shop or by calling Diana Jones, 510-527-9328. The membership is through Berkeley Clinic Auxiliary which runs the shop with its member-volunteers. Shop is located at 10052 San Pablo Ave, El Cerrito; 510-525-7844.  (Across from Pastime Hardware and Nation’s Giant Hamburgers).   


Person of the Planet

At Arlington Community Church, we hold monthly events regarding protecting the planet, and can use both participants as well as “helpers”.  We participate in community events and would love some meet and greeter helpers.  Want to help plan our programs?  Have some ideas for speakers for films?  Contact Shanti Moorjani leslieshanti@yahoo.com or Ruth Robinson at ACC.


Therapy Pets

Therapypets.org is a local organization that certifies dogs as therapy animals, arranges for participation in skilled nursing homes, hospitals, schools and libraries.  If you think your furry companion might want to do this work, contact Ruth Robinson ruthrobinson2@icloud.com  for more information.


Read Aloud Program

Read Aloud Program:    Meet with a child at school once a week to read a book (provided by the program) aloud, and send the child back to class with a new book to take home.  Contact: http://read-aloud.org/volunteer/apply-to-volunteer  . The program requires one hour a week.


Writing Coach Connection

Writing Coach Connection:   Coach one session a week to help 2 High School students in one-on-one sittings, to improve their writing skills.  Local programs are at El Cerrito High, Richmond High, and Kennedy High.
